Congregational Spiritual Retreats

Getting ready for the campfire

The tradition of making a spiritual retreat is in every religion. Since the beginning, Christians have gone into the desert, mountains, and monasteries on retreat to be sensitive to the presence of God. The first step to actually make a retreat is to say "no" to the busy-ness of our daily life and "yes" to ourselves. It is to slow down and find space for our spiritual self. In the simplicity of the retreat experience, or through music, prayer, or bonding in community with other seekers we can find more of our true spiritual selves. There are worlds and worlds of God inside of us to discover. This is the peace, the fruit of the retreat experience. Sacred space, prayer, meditation, community, song, and nature all support us to affirm once again the life of our soul. This program will enhance the faith life of believers who are seeking a deeper meaning to their faith, or those exploring the true meaning of their relationship with Jesus Christ.

The practice at LUC over the last number of years has been to hold a retreat every couple of years.

These weekends, held the last few times at Charis Camp in Rosedale, have included programming for adults, teens, elementary aged children, and tiny tots. This lovely facility has given us the opportunity to really relax. We have been able to get to know others in the congregation better than is possible at coffee hour after the worship service, and to grow in our faith as followers ("disciples") of Jesus.

Our last retreat was held in April 2008 at Charis Camp. Planning and fundraising for our next retreat will begin around April 2010 with a tentative date set for April, 2011. As plans are confirmed information will be posted on our Upcoming Events page.
